FAQs
What is an independent celebrant ?
An independent celebrant is a professional who conducts ceremonies, such as weddings, funerals and other significant life events, without being tied to a specific religious institution. They offer a personalised approach, tailoring each ceremony to reflect the wishes and beliefs of the individuals involved. Independent celebrants cater to a wide range of audiences, making them suitable for people from different backgrounds and beliefs.
Is that like a humanist celebrant?
No. A humanist celebrant specifically follows a formalised set of secular, humanist principles. In contrast independent celebrants are not doctrine-led, and can incorporate secular and/or religious elements into a ceremony.
What are the benefits of celebrant-led ceremony?
A celebrant-led ceremony combines personalisation, flexibility, and emotional depth, creating a unique experience that resonates with all involved. I will be there to guide you through the lead-up and the day itself, helping things run smoothly so you can enjoy the moment.
Can you perform a legal marriage?
The ceremonies I provide—whether for weddings, civil partnerships, naming ceremonies, vow renewals, or commitment ceremonies—are not legally binding…
…How do I do the legal bit?
This must be done by a Registrar (generally beforehand), as there are specific legal words that must be said to make it official. You can arrange a simple 10-minute appointment at your local Register Office with just the two of you and two witnesses (commonly called a ‘two plus two’), costing as little as £56. There’s no need to exchange rings at this meeting, allowing you to save that special moment for when you stand before your friends and family at the full ceremony.
Can you include spiritual or religious elements?
Yes, I can weave in all types of readings, poems or blessings.
Do you do themed ceremonies?
Absolutely! Go nuts. It can be as traditional or unexpected as your perfect day needs it to be. I'm game for anything. Although I might draw the line at a 'Minions'-themed wedding. (Does that make me despicable?)
